SAN DIEGO, CA: In recognition of Shakti Rising’s leading-edge educational model, the Annenberg Foundation recently granted $52,560 to Shakti Rising to support the Offsite Wellness and Leadership Education Services (OWLS) program. Through the Annenberg Foundation’s generous grant, Shakti Rising will expand its offsite services which provide early intervention services to at-risk young women who are facing complex issues including interpersonal violence, addictions, eating disorders, body image issues, and depression. The grant will enable Shakti Rising to provide programming in underserved areas of San Diego and dedicate a staff member to the project. “Through the generosity of the Annenberg Foundation, Shakti Rising will provide young women with the necessary skills to create lifestyles that result in optimal learning behaviors and overall health,” says Shannon Thompson, Founder and Executive Director of Shakti Rising. “We are deeply honored that the Annenberg Foundation has chosen to support the OWLS program to make a difference in the lives of at-risk young women in San Diego.”
