LOS ANGELES, CA: The Annenberg Foundation and the California Community Foundation announced Tuesday they are partnering with The Grantsmanship Center to strengthen the local nonprofit sector by providing subsidized grantsmanship training for community-based organizations in Los Angeles County.
The partnership will enable 100 local nonprofit leaders to receive comprehensive grant development training at a fraction of its cost through four workshops in 2008. The two foundations will underwrite up to 90 percent of the tuition for eligible staff and board members to attend The Grantsmanship Center’s Grantsmanship Training Program, a workshop that provides hands-on training in planning more effective programs, researching funding sources and preparing coherent and persuasive proposals.

“Nonprofit organizations often miss viable funding opportunities because they are constantly overwhelmed with the work,’’ said Antonia Hernández, president and CEO of the California Community Foundation. “This partnership will help nonprofit leaders identify resources, seek funding and improve program planning – a big step toward making L.A.’s nonprofit sector stronger.’’
“Grantsmanship helps to put the passion that drives nonprofits onto paper so that funders are inspired to lend support,” said Cathleen Kiritz, president of The Grantsmanship Center. “At the end of the workshop week, participants will gain crucial skills needed to describe their programs coherently and persuasively to prospective funders.” About the Grantsmanship Training Program
The Annenberg Foundation and the California Community Foundation will pay up to 90 percent of the tuition for eligible nonprofit leaders. Staff or board members of 501(c)(3) public charities based in Los Angeles County with annual budgets of under $10 million are eligible. Tuition is $200 per person for organizations with budgets less than $750,000 and $300 per person for organizations with budgets between $750,000 and $10 million. As a commitment to success after the workshop, each participant is encouraged to submit a draft proposal within three months of completing the training. After the proposal has been reviewed, half of the tuition paid by the participant will be refunded.
