Applications Accepted Now For Nonprofit Professional Development Program

The Annenberg Foundation is now accepting applications from qualified nonprofits in Los Angeles County for a new leadership development program named Alchemy.

Alchemy is an expansion of the Foundation's successful initiative, the Annenberg Nonprofit Leadership Seminar, which has provided training to hundreds of nonprofits in the region over the past three years. The Foundation will launch Alchemy with sessions that begin in January, February and March 2010.The program is free.The application and additional information may be found at www.annenbergalchemy.org.

Alchemy offers capacity building with a focus on volunteer leadership and is specifically for Executive Directors and Board Chairs.   It is offered at no charge to nonprofits with operating budgets of $2 million or less based in Los Angeles County.  However, the Executive Director and Board Chairperson are asked to participate together through the duration of the training.  Among the critical issues addressed will be effective governance, fundraising and public accountability. New opportunities for nonprofits within Alchemy include:

• More leadership seminar sessions, enabling nearly 10 times the number of executives and nonprofits to participate;

• An active peer network that includes extended mentoring and roundtable discussions;

• Introduction to cutting-edge management practices;

• A second phase of training that includes technical assistance and a small grants program.

The Annenberg Foundation has committed several million dollars over the next two years to improving the Los Angeles area nonprofit sector through this program.   Alchemy builds upon the Foundation's 20-year history of providing financial grants, capacity building initiatives such as the Annenberg Nonprofit Leadership Seminar, Project Grantsmanship and Meet the Grantmakers, as well as other signature projects of the Board of Directors.  The Foundation’s long-standing commitment to capacity building stems from the belief in the importance of vision-driven leadership in creating systemic change, addressing societal problems and transforming nonprofit organizations to a higher level of effectiveness.  Alchemy provides an enhanced curriculum from Annenberg Nonprofit Leadership Seminar, which served 200 nonprofit organizations and 400 nonprofit leaders throughout Southern California in just over three years.
